Dartmooor Weather
We're not short of it...
Not typical, but it happens! Part of the reason Dartmoor is what it is, the amount of rain that falls and is retained in the peaty soil. Low cloud and hill fog add to the feeling of the place - even when it stays for days! But when the sun shines...oh, it is truly wonderful.

Five seasons in one day! This is what some guests in our early days, and many others have since, said we should expect . Certainly we quickly realised that "changeable" really has meaning up here!

However, the Beechwood philosophy regarding the capricious nature of the meterological climate here is that we have only two types - "Fine and Sunny" and "Atmospheric". Somedays are more atmospheric than others and when it is too atmospheric to go out, we stay in, drink wine and play scrabble!

Cloud Appreciation

We get to see some pretty amazing sunsets though. Fine days are wonderful and it can get very hot, especially if you're out on the open moors with no shelter. Hats and sunscreen are as important in the rucksack as waterproofs and gloves!

"Great stay. everything just so. Thanks, it made our stay brilliant. Even the rain seemed warm! " - Paul & Sue

Web Cam

Of course the best way see what the weather's like is to take a look at it - and here you can!

I fully intend to get our own web cam up and running very soon - possibly when I have finished this web site! Until then the wonderful people at Dartcom located in Powdermills just up the road, have given us permission to import the image from their webcam, which is in fact pointed in our direction from about 2 miles away!

Thank you Dartcom - manufacturers of weather satellite and remote sensing ground stations
