Walking on Dartmoor
Long or short, challenging or easy...

Andrew on Hartland Tor, 10 minutes after the start of many possible walks from Beechwood.

Although I don't actually offer guided walks (yet!), I often plan routes and print out maps for Beechwood guests to follow - or not!

Possibly the most common activity on Dartmoor, walking can certainly be challenging , often wet , and cold sometimes but it is always a pleasure - at least it should be! I will go to great lengths to ensure that our guests are well prepared for the walks they intend to do as we rather like them to come back unbroken and happy. There are many books and pamphlets of walks and I'm not about to start writing my own just yet, however I do have favourites which can be started and finished here at Beechwood. Letterboxing is also a very popular activity and one to which we can introduce our guests.

Guided Walks ...

The DNPA organise each year a calender of guided walks with qualified local guides. Generally these are easy enough walks from 2 to 4 hours in duration. Some guides, such as Tom Soby and Phil Page also do their own walks where they share their wealth of knowledge of Dartmoor.
