Photography on Dartmoor
Wherever I look there's a picture...

Panorama of Bellever Tor from Laughter Tor

There are some pretty fantastic places around the country for keen photographers, Dartmoor is just one of them but, oh what a place! The landscape, the wildlife, the antiquities, the "chocolate box" buildings and villages around - everything you want all in one place.

Photography is a long time but undeveloped hobby of mine (Andrew) and you'll find lots of magazines such as Outdoor Photography and Practical Photographer around the lounge. Also some of the recommended reading for amateur photographers such as "Digital Macro Photogrpahy" by Ross Hoddinot and "Capturing the Light" by Peter Watson are around for those who are interested.

Do please take a look at the photos in the Beechwood Gallery, hopefully they show the potential for capturing great images here - from landscape to macro and everything in between!

"Super everything. Will come again and again, thanks." - Chris & Jen, Falmouth

Learn together weekends
In 2008 I hope to start a new kind of photographers holiday. One where all concerned get something out of a few days concentrating on the development of their hobby but without a tutor as such. How often have you found that simply talking with someone else with a similar interest can resolve a particular issue you couldn't sort out yourself. Wouldn't it be great to spend perhaps just a couple of hours comparing notes on composition, or depth of field. Maybe you'd like to see just what is involved in the art of macro photography or spend the time with others capturing that perfect landscape. Perhaps you've just gone digital and want to know more about post capture image manipulation in programmes such as Photoshop.

Whatever our level of competence we should be always able and ready to learn something new from someone - if not, then you can have an enjoyable few days sharing your knowledge with people who will certainly appreciate it.
