Cycling on Dartmoor
The are many on and off road trails and tracks on Dartmoor...
A bit of off road biking

Whether you’re a passionate pedaller or just a casual cyclist Dartmoor has everything you could wish for - safe, traffic-free trails and quiet forest tracks, steep rugged off-road routes for keen mountain bikers, and historic rural lanes to enjoy at your own pace. You’ll find pre-planned routes in the many leaflets and guides available, ranging from the marathon 90-mile circular Dartmoor Way to family rides suitable for all ages. If you want to get away from the beaten track, the Off Road Cycling Map is invaluable, with all routes graded. We have plenty of safe, dry storage for cycles and gear.

Bikes available here

And if you’ve left your wheels at home, you can hire bikes of all shapes and sizes from Runnage Farm nearby. We also have two mountain bikes available free of charge to whoever books them first!

"Absolutely lovely, relaxing and exhilarating (beginning to our) trip. Andrew & Lorraine, thank you so much for loaning us the bikes & helping us get around. I hope we can return. " - Marilyn & Jan, Blacksburg, USA

Circular route from Beechwood

Start Point: Beechwood on Dartmooor
( SX 65253 79278)

Turn right out of our gateway onto the B3212 and the first right up the track by Wesley House and Cottage. Join the minor road at the end of the track and follow it down into Lower Merripit Farm. (This is a public bridleway but please remember the farm is private property on both sides!). Cross the ford and up the track to join the road, turn right and follow down to Runnage Bridge and then alongside Soussons plantation. After the sign for Soussons Forest on the left, the road turns sharply left but you should follow the track that goes round to the right. Turn left on the bridlepath to cross Cator Common. On meeting the road, turn left towards Bellever. (At the entrance to Bellever Park you can choose to shorten the ride by taking the road back to the B3212) To continue, go into the forest and down to the car park and toilets then head uphill on the track in front of you. Go through the gate and turn right downhill then follow the track for about 1.25 miles. At the fork in the track (SX 64803 76488), take the right fork downhill and continue until the fork ( SX 65113 77101) where you bear left to follow tha track all the way down to the car park. Out of the forest and trun right onto the B3212, down and over the bridge to go up the hill past the pub (maybe!) and on back to Beechwood.
