Beechwood House was originally two cottages built in 1871. The two were made into one house in 1976 and an extension was built in 1996. Located on the main B3212 across Dartmoor, Beechwood is easy to find.
There are 5 letting bedrooms, four at one end of the house and one at the other; all are on the first floor. As Beechwood is built on the side of a hill, there are many levels with many steps and this makes the house completely unsuitable for wheelchair users of people with severe mobility difficulties. We do everything that is reasonably practical to assist with other disabilities and special needs but if anything in this statement is unclear or further advice is required, please contact us directly by telephone or email.
We have one cat and although Monty is not allowed into guest bedrooms we cannot guarantee that he has not paid a brief visit when doors are left open. Dogs are not allowed inside the house but we are happy for guests to bring them if they can sleep in a car or in one of our stables. There is plenty of space in the meadows to exercise them but owners absolutely must clean up after their dogs.
Information before booking
Our web site www.beechwood-dartmoor.co.uk contains most information that is likely to be required and also has an enquiry form for anything further. It includes our environmental policy, location and contact details as well as details of bedrooms, breakfast, evening meals and lounge facilities.
Most guests arrive by car or on foot as public transport (bus) is infrequent. Further details of buses can be obtained from the local tourist information centres and contact details for them are on the web site. It may be possible for us to collect guests coming by bus from Princetown or Moretonhampstead if they are unable to catch a bus to Postbridge but arrangements must be made well in advance of arrival.
The nearest train stations are Newton Abbott and Plymouth, both are about 15 miles away but buses from Plymouth are most frequent. Buses from Exeter railway station will almost always only get as far as Moretonhampstead. We would be happy to collect from Moretonhampstead with prior notice.
Rooms can be booked by telephone, email of via an Online Booking facility operated by a third party. At this time most information will be taken but on check-in further details may be requested. Terms and conditions are available for viewing on the web site.
